Captain Ken Moore (1932-2018)

Ken Moore founded K.D. Moore Associates in 1968 in San Francisco, CA specializing in Hull and Machinery Condition & Value Surveys, as well as Damage Surveys and Crew & Passenger Investigations.

Ken spent several years at sea as a Navigator then went on to work for several major shipping lines, including Port Captain for American President Lines in San Francisco, prior to starting his own business and career as a Marine Surveyor.

Ken was a California Maritime Academy Alumni with a bachelor’s degree in Nautical Science. He held USCG issued Unlimited Mates License and was a retired US Navy Captain. He was a Certified Marine Surveyor of the National Association of Marine Surveyors and a licensed California Private Investigator.

Ken was extremely knowledgeable in the interworking’s of the Maritime Industry and held several Officer Positions in Maritime related organizations including Chairman of the National Association of Marine Surveyors (Pacific Coast Selection Committee), Director of the San Francisco Marine Exchange and a member of the International Association of Marine Investigators, the Maritime Law Association of the US and the Association of Marine Underwriters of San Francisco.

Ken was an example to many in the industry having personally trained 22 surveyors in his career; including his son, Kevin and granddaughter, Heather, who joined and operate the business today.


Kevin Moore

Kevin joined K.D. Moore associates in 2002 after a long career in live production and venue management. His interest in sailing and boats began at a young age when he and his father would sail on the San Francisco Bay. He would often accompany his father to the Sacramento River Delta when Ken was surveying yachts.

Prior to moving back to the Bay Area and joining K. D. Moore Associates, Kevin lived in Seattle where he would race his boat and cruise the San Juan Islands. Kevin has two children and enjoys traveling, sailing and skiing.

Since joining K. D. Moore Associates Kevin has become an Accredited Marine Surveyor and served as the Sub- Regional Director for the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors. Kevin is actively involved with many industry organizations and assists on the planning committee for the Bi-Annual Event held by the Board of Marine Underwriters of San Francisco. He is a member of American Boat and Yacht Counsel, and International Association of Marine Investigators.


Heather Hyde

Heather has been working as a Surveyor with K.D. Moore Associates since 2009. Heather is the third generation to join her Grandfather’s business. She spent years working part time on the administrative side of the business absorbing the surveying and boating culture.

Prior to becoming a fulltime surveyor, Heather was a competitive surfer, lived in Costa Rica and ran a surf and yoga retreat for women. She is passionate about the water and has found that working in the Maritime Industry is a great fit.

Heather is an Accredited Marine Surveyor with the Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors as well as a Certified Marine Electrical and Corrosion Technician through the American Boat and Yacht Counsel. Heather has been involved in the Marine Insurance Industry and is a Past President of the San Francisco Marine Claims Association. Heather is also an active member of the International Association of Marine Investigators, International Association of Insurance Professionals and the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association. Heather is currently a Candidate Member with the American Society of Appraisers and working toward full accreditation in Machinery and Technical Specialties.


Serika Moore

Serika joined K.D. Moore Associates in 2017 as a Claims Administrator. Prior to working for KDMA Serika worked as a Project Administrator for Servpro Restoration Services, where she handled property damage claims. Serika also held an accounting and administrative position with a family winery.

She is well versed in office management as well as claimant and client relations, and a great addition to the KDMA Team!
